The former footballer believes that Didier Deschamps was absolutely right not to summon Kylian Mbappé for the next gathering.

Didier Deschamps revealed Thursday the list of players he is counting on for the next Blues rally. For reasons that he has chosen to keep quiet and which are already making headlines in the media, the coach has chosen to do without the services of Kylian Mbappé.

Was the French boss right to leave out his captain? A question that Jérôme Rothen addressed in his last broadcast for RMC Sport. And for him, the answer can only be affirmative. “Mbappé is not to be pitied because he is the one who is at the root of all these problems. Communication, behavior or performance. What do you want to protect it for?“, he blurted.

“It’s up to Mbappé to make his self-criticism”

Rothen continued by indicating that this is a “real sanction” on the part of Deschamps and that it is up to Mbappé to react from now on: “If you really want to round the nails and protect it then Mbappé must speak. It’s self-criticism and sincerity. Perhaps that will improve performance on the pitch. I’m waiting for him to communicate and admit his mistakes. Because he’s the one who went to get all that.”

The fact that Mbappé was “punished” by his coach is also the hypothesis defended by Jean-Michel Larqué. Speaking on the same show Thursday evening, he said: “He simply and cleanly kicked Mbappé out of the France team, he fired him! He fired him not by taking winding paths, but he fired him by sending back to Mbappé what Mbappé had said during his last crime: “I do not wish to come to protect myself. » Well my little Mbappé, for the upcoming gathering, you are not going to come, you are going to rest and you are going to protect yourself. I think it’s a wonderful turnaround. »
