Kevin Strootman, former OM midfielder and Dutch international, has announced his retirement at the age of 34. He will have played 533 club matches and 46 with the Dutch selection, ending a career marked by his time at AS Roma and OM.

At 34, Kevin Strootman, former Dutch international midfielder, announced on Friday that he was ending his professional football career. Without a club since the end of his contract with Genoa this summer, Strootman has marked his time at several European clubs, including Olympique de Marseille, where he arrived in 2018 for 25 million euros from AS Roma .

A rich journey despite difficulties in Ligue 1

However, despite his 78 appearances and 3 goals in the Marseille jersey, his time at OM did not leave a lasting memory. From 2021, he had a series of loans to Cagliari and Genoa. Trained at Sparta Rotterdam, Strootman revealed himself at PSV Eindhoven before joining Roma, then OM.

In his 533 professional matches, the Batavian also wore the jersey of the Dutch national team 46 times, where he was nicknamed the “washing machine” for his ability to recover and distribute balls. His track record includes a Dutch Cup and a Super Cup with PSV in 2012.
