Over the past couple of days, there has been a lot of noise surrounding Thiago Alcantara possibly returning to FC Barcelona as part of Hansi Flick’s coaching staff.

The former La Masia graduate announced his retirement from football recently after his contract at Liverpool expired on June 30.

There had been speculations about Flick wanting Thiago in his staff even before, with the new Barça head coach having worked with him at Bayern Munich in the past.

The retirement announcement seems to have spurred things up further as Flick is understood to have met with his former protege on Monday to discuss the possibility of becoming his assistant at Barça.

Thiago not entirely sure

On Monday, some reports seemed to suggest that Thiago was very tempted by the possibility of returning to Barcelona as a coach in Hansi Flick’s backroom staff.

However, now, MARCA reports that the former Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool midfielder is not sure about accepting Flick’s proposal at this time.

As mentioned already, the German tactician would like to have Thiago by his side in this new stage that he is starting at Barcelona, but the situation is complex and it won’t be easy.

Thiago wants to take a period of reflection to know what to do in the future. He values the proposal that Flick has made to him a great deal, but he is not sure about taking it up.

The former Spanish international is willing to collaborate with the new Barcelona manager at some point, but not yet as a full member of the staff.

Flick wanted Thiago at Barcelona as a liaison between the players and the new coaching staff. The former midfielder’s intimate knowledge of the club, proficiency in German and Spanish languages, and familiarity with Flick’s methods made him an ideal fit.

However, at the moment, Thiago is not sure about jumping on board full-time, although an occasional collaboration here and there is not entirely ruled out.
