Former Barcelona goalkeeper Arnau Tenas has shared his thoughts on his departure from the club, stating that he would have preferred to remain at Barcelona if given the opportunity. However, he felt let down as the club did not offer him a contract extension.
During his time at Barcelona, Tenas had the chance to showcase his talents, especially when Marc-Andre ter Stegen faced injuries in both the current and previous seasons.
These circumstances brought Tenas back into the spotlight. However, after his contract with Barcelona ended in 2023, he signed with Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
Tenas wanted to stay at Barcelona
Tenas expressed a strong desire to continue with Barcelona, mentioning that he would have accepted any contract offer.
He was open to the idea of going on loan to gain playing experience, as he recognised that there was no immediate position for him in the first team.
“I would have signed any contract. I would have stayed and gone somewhere else on loan because I had to play and there was no place for me in the first team, but I don’t understand why this didn’t happen,” he said as quoted by MARCA.

When he learned about the situation, he was understandably affected, especially since he was participating in the European Under-21 Championship at the time.
“They didn’t put an offer on the table for me to say yes or no. When I found out, it was hard.
“I was playing in the European Under-21 Championship and I didn’t want my teammates to see me affected,” he added.
Upon moving to PSG, Tenas received support from manager Luis Enrique, who had high hopes for him.
There were even speculations that Tenas could challenge Gianluigi Donnarumma for the starting goalkeeper position, largely due to his impressive skills with the ball at his feet.
However, he now finds himself in a more challenging situation at PSG, currently positioned as the third-choice goalkeeper behind Donnarumma and Matvey Safonov.
