Legendary former Manchester United CEO David Gill has disclosed the three adjustments Omar Berrada has to make to take the team back to the top.
After Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover, United raided rivals Man City to appoint Berrada as their new CEO.
Berrada is one of the backroom heroes that turned Pep Guardiola’s team into treble winners.
However, he has a challenging task ahead of him at Old Trafford, given United’s most recent Premier League title coming in 2013.
Now that Gill has left United, the former CEO has given Berrada some advice. Gill supervised a golden age at United between 2003 and 2013.
Gill, who joined United as finance director in 1997, believes that by adding someone from “outside” the team, Ratcliffe has already made a great start.
Regarding Berrada, Gill has advised him to establish communication with United’s negotiating and recruitment departments, as well as sporting director Dave Brailsford.
Gill believes that Berrada should prioritise landing more lucrative sponsorship agreements in addition to coordinating excellent on-field team performances.
Gill told Vibe with Five: “Firstly, I think appointing someone from outside is a good idea, someone with new ideas and a new perspective coming from a very successful club.
“[My advices would be to] really focus in with Dave Brailsford and those on the recruitment and negotiation side, really understand that.
“Get the focus back on that, get it working better to deliver the players.
“We have just negotiated an extension with adidas, a great deal there, and we’ve got sponsors coming in all the time so that is working pretty well.
“But if you align that with a team performance you’re doing even better.”
