Burnley have identified former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard as a top contender for the vacant role at Turf Moor following the departure of Vincent Kompany.
The Belgian joined Bayern Munich this week having been in the hot seat at the Clarets for the last two seasons. The 38-year-old helped Burnley gain promotion back to the Premier League as Championship winners but they went straight back down, despite improvements towards the end of the campaign.
The opportunity at Bayern was too good for Kompany to turn down and that has now left Burnley in the market for a new coach ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
The Athletic reports the Championship side have made Craig Bellamy acting head coach while they search for a permanent solution as former Chelsea and Everton boss Frank Lampard has emerged as a top contender.
The 45-year-old has been out of management since taking temporary charge of the Blues until the end of the 2022/23 campaign following Graham Potter’s dismissal at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard had a legendary career in England winning every trophy possible with Chelsea during his 13 years at Stamford Bridge. However, his managerial career has not gone as well.
Apart from his spell at Derby, the former midfielder has been sacked by every other club he has managed and has shown that coaching in the Premier League may be a step too much for him.
His second spell at Chelsea said it all. In terms of winning percentage, Lampard has the worst record (9%) among every Blues manager who has overseen three or more matches, achieving just one win in his 11 games in charge.
Although the 45-year-old will be dropping down to the Championship, this is still a risky appointment for Burnley given the recent work from Lampard. The Clarets will be expected to be fighting for promotion next season and can the former England international deliver that?
