After much speculation over the past few days, it appears that Barcelona will have another fresh addition to their coaching staff this summer in the form of ex-midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Indeed, according to SPORT, Thiago has given his OK to join Hansi Flick’s staff at Barcelona after holding discussions with his former manager.

Thiago announced his retirement from football recently after having endured an injury-riddled stint at Liverpool.

The 33-year-old former La Masia graduate had been touted for a return to Barcelona ever since Flick was announced as manager with the German tactician desiring to add him to his staff.

Flick and Thiago worked together at Bayern Munich and the new Barcelona head coach wanted his former protege in Catalonia due to his experience, fluency in German and Spanish languages, and familiarity with both his methods and the Barça philosophy.

Thiago had visited Barcelona’s training facilities on Tuesday to meet Flick and did so again today morning.

Having now given the green light, the 33-year-old is now working on how to fit him in contractually. Discussions have been held with club officials like Bojan and Deco.

The former player, who knows that challenges may arise in the short or medium term, does not want his arrival to become an issue, especially given the club’s financial situation.

Nothing is sealed yet but it appears that things are moving in the right direction and Flick can count on a former Barcelona player as a member of his staff.
