Paris Saint-Germain and Netherlands star Xavi Simons has hinted that he will eventually reveal the true reasons behind his departure from Barcelona.

Simons, who made a significant impact at Euro 2024, left Barcelona’s youth academy for free despite being one of La Masia’s most promising talents in 2019.

The specifics of his departure have always been shrouded in mystery, as Simons has remained tight-lipped about the details. However, he has now stated that he plans to break his silence soon.

“I’m a boy who works every day to achieve my dreams. People may have an opinion that they have been told. What I can say is that everything that is said is not true,” said the 21-year-old as quoted by SPORT.

“One day I will talk about everything that happened. I have a lot of people who support me and believe in me and that is what I am left with,” he added.

On the other hand, Ferney Agudelo, a scout close to Simons’ entourage, was quoted by the outlet that his departure from Barcelona was not at all motivated by monetary benefits.

“It wasn’t a question of money. His entourage realised that he was reaching his limit and thought of another sporting project.

“Simons was focused on improving day by day, but Barça didn’t give him the guarantee that if everything went well he would debut in the first team before he was 18. The one who suffered the most was Xavi,” he said.

Simons on Barcelona’s radar again

After all these years, Simons is once again catching Barcelona’s eye. His stellar performance at the European Championship and impressive development as a footballer have kept him on Barça’s radar.

During Euro 2024, the Dutch midfielder played a crucial role for the Netherlands team, especially after the injury of his teammate Frenkie de Jong. He went on to surpass all expectations, even scoring a memorable goal against England that fueled the team’s ambitions.

At just 21, Simons finds himself at a crossroads with numerous opportunities ahead. The former Barcelona youth player is now one of the most sought-after talents in the transfer market, with Bayern Munich also said to be in the race

Not staying at PSG

Though currently owned by Paris Saint-Germain, Simons and Luis Enrique are set to have a discussion soon to determine the young star’s next move.

Simons is contracted with PSG until 2027, and in the past two years, he has been loaned out to PSV and Leipzig. These loan spells have solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young players.

Despite his growth, Simons doesn’t seem to fit into Luis Enrique’s tactical plans at PSG, leading to speculation about his future.

Another loan deal appears likely, but a transfer is not off the table either, especially if a lucrative offer comes in. Simons’ market value is currently estimated at around €80 million, a figure that reflects his rising status in the football world.
