Former Liverpool star opens up about cocaine addiction

With almost 250 games for Liverpool, Danny Murphy has had an impressive career as a midfielder. After taking up his position, the England international retired in 2013. A very complicated passage for him which caused him to fall into drugs. In Ben Heath’s podcast, the man who now works as a consultant in the English media, spoke about his post-career management and his addiction to cocaine.

“I needed to escape from reality. And reality was fraught with problems. For a while I was (addicted to cocaine), yeah. I got to the point where I thought I couldn’t do things without it. (…) When I received help, I surrounded myself with people who had experienced this. I did some therapy and group work. I probably spent a year in a world of pain.” he said with difficulty.
