Manchester United have been told to make a move for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer in the summer.

Given the injury issues United have encountered this season, Erik ten Hag and the club appear to have signing a new centre-back in the summer high on their priority list.

Lisandro Martinez has faced fitness issues this season, with the defender spending two spells on the sideline.

United played with a centre-back partnership of Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire but they need a new young and athletic defender at the club.

The defender may be just what the Red Devils need, according to an interview with Bremer’s former Torino boss Moreno Longo.

“I’m not good at numbers and evaluations of players, if I were a coach of those teams [United and other interested clubs] I would look for that type of defender,” he told TuttoJuve.

“He has an overwhelming physicality, he defends in the open field without fear of having 40/50 metres behind him and he plays dominant football. I would always want that.”

Longo gave an explanation of the Brazilian defender’s significance to Torino when asked what he saw in him.

“When I arrived at Torino, he was a bit on the fringes. The starter was Lyanco and I put my trust in him, because I saw great qualities in him to become a very important defender. He knew how to seize the opportunity,” Longo explained.

Bremer has scored twice in the Italian league in 24 games for the Italian giants. This season, he has an 88% passing accuracy rate for the Turin-based team.

Other defenders being linked with a move to Old Trafford are Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton, Lille’s Leny Yoro and Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini.
