Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna could now be in line for his first managerial job in the Premier League.

The former Manchester United coach worked wonders with Ipswich last season by guiding the Tractor Boys from League One to the Championship.

McKenna has continued his impressive work at Ipswich this season since they’re now flying in the Championship – sitting second following a Boxing Day draw with leaders Leicester City. Meanwhile, Southampton are five points behind in third place.

That means Ipswich are eyeing back-to-back promotion seasons under McKenna, so it’s no wonder that he is now attracting interest from the Premier League.

Crystal Palace’s search for a new manager gathered urgency at the weekend after Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to Arsenal. It has been a horrific season for the veteran coach, with Palace failing to win in their last eight games. The Eagles are currently placed 15th in the top flight – 5 points clear of relegation.

Although Palace have yet to sack Hodgson, The Telegraph claims McKenna is admired by the club and is one of the top targets to replace the 76-year-old veteran coach. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Hodgson did a superb job to save Palace from relegation last season, even though his days appeared to be numbered.

A younger coach like McKenna would help implement a new vision at Selhurt Park, however, he is only one of the names in the mix. Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is said to be one of the leading candidates.
