Former Real Madrid star backs Zinedine Zidane to become Manchester United manager

Former Brazil and Real Madrid star Julio Baptista has backed former teammate Zinedine Zidane to eventually take over at Manchester United.

Even though Erik ten Hag is still Manchester United manager, there is no sign of speculation coming to a halt over his future. Every week a different manager is linked with the job and some former players speak about the entire situation like Ten Hag doesn’t exist.

There is no denying that this season hasn’t gone to plan for United. That said, it could still end of a positive note if Ten Hag’s side can secure Champions League football for next season and win the FA Cup.

For me, at least, I think we should be backing Ten Hag into a third season as United manager. The need for change is being blown out of proportion by the mainstream media.

Zidane to United links resurface

The French football icon was linked with the United job before Ten Hag was appointed, and he’s still without a job, so it’s convenient for the newspapers to drag his name back into the equation.

During an interview with Baptista, the former Real Madrid star said that he can see Zidane working in the Premier League as United manager one day.

“Zidane was the best player I have ever played with,” Baptista told Ladbrokes (H/t Metro).

“Playing with him and sharing a dressing room with him was very special. He is one [of] the best in the world.

“In training sessions, he would do crazy things, but he is a very good person. I see him often and we like to reminisce about our time together at Real Madrid. My best memory with him was actually his last game at Real Madrid against Villarreal. We won 3-3 and I scored two goals. I was so glad to have played well and score to give him good memories of his last game.

“I think he will be a Premier League manager someday. He is an incredible coach, with amazing experience having won the Champions League, so I can see that happening. I can see him going to Manchester United.”
