Ex-Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock couldn’t help but heap praise onto one Manchester United play despite his former side’s deflating defeat.
The Red Devils endured a tightly-contested clash at Villa Park on Sunday, with the scoreline tied at 1-1 heading into the final 10 minutes of the match.
As has been the case several times already this season, Erik ten Hag’s super-sub proved to work miracles again as Scott McTominay – now United’s top goalscorer in the Premier League – headed home in the 86th minute to claim all three points, closing the gap on Champions League-chasing Villa in the table to just five points.
John McGinn admitted post-match that his fellow Scotland teammate’s aerial dominance is something that he’s ‘unfortunately great’ at, although credit must also be shared with Diogo Dalot, who dispatched an inch-perfect cross that was met so sweetly by McTominay.
Warnock’s high praise for Dalot
Several Reds’ performances were so stellar that the likes of Dalot’s could slip under the radar, however, Warnock was quick to laud the right-back’s spirited showing on the BBC’s Match of the Day 2.
“Dalot is one of the best crossers of the ball in the Premier League,” Warnock declared. “Look at that for a ball, Hojlund must have been licking his lips thinking he’s going to be on the end of that.”
