Today San Diego local and Ireland national team forward Kyra Carusa becomes the 21st player signed to the San Diego Wave for the upcoming 2024 season. Her new contract with the team also includes a mutual option for 2025.
“When I first came to San Diego I got a feeling of things being right and me being where I need to be, I have that same feeling right now,” Carusa said of her excitement on her new contract to The Equalizer.
Carusa joined the Wave late in the 2023 season, playing just the final eight matches. However, she made quite an impact, earning four starts and scoring twice—including game-winners against Orlando and Portland. The latter helped to secure the Wave’s playoff berth.
The forward spoke of her reasoning behind staying with the Wave, stating that she saw San Diego on her path to becoming “a better player, a more efficient player, a better attacker, [and] testing my skills in the NWSL which is something I haven’t really been able to do yet in my professional career. It’s something I really want to conquer and be successful.”
