Four reasons why Barcelona youngster is likened to Bayern Munich superstar – report

Since the start of the 2024/25 season, much has been said about Marc Casado’s role under Hansi Flick, with many drawing comparisons to how Joshua Kimmich was used by Flick during their time together at Bayern Munich. 

This comparison has become a common theme ever since Flick was announced as Barcelona’s new coach for this season.

Before Flick’s appointment, Barcelona had already been linked with Kimmich as a potential midfield reinforcement under Xavi. 

At that time, Casado, a key player for Barça Atletic, began making appearances for the first team. Despite this, his minutes on the field were likely fewer than he would have hoped for.

Similarities between Casado and Kimmich

Interestingly, a recent report by SPORT highlights several similarities between Casado and Kimmich. 

Firstly, both players possess a high level of tactical intelligence, which allows them to understand and control the game effectively. Secondly, they have similar physical profiles, although Kimmich is just 4 cm taller than Casado.

Another notable similarity is their versatility. Both players are capable of performing in midfield and at right back. Lastly, they share a strong competitive nature, a trait Flick highly values in his teams. 

“Yes, from a physical point of view, they would be comparable. I have seen similarities in the way they run, in the way they both press,” said Flick about the comparison.

Despite these similarities, though, there are clear differences between the two. To begin with, Casado, having grown up at Barcelona, is already familiar with the club’s environment and does not need to adapt, unlike Kimmich. 

Additionally, Casado is eight years younger than Kimmich, which suggests a promising future ahead for the young talent.

In summary, while Casado and Kimmich share many traits and roles, Casado’s deep connection with Barcelona and his youth position him uniquely for the future. 

His familiarity with the club and his age suggests that he could become a key player for Barcelona in the years to come.
