Fox Corp. has set a “Tubi takeover” for next month’s coverage of Super Bowl LIX, highlighted by a livestream of the game on the free, ad-supported service.

The Tubi presence will complement game coverage across multiple platforms on February 9. The main telecast will be available on the Fox broadcast network, Fox Deportes and NBCUniversal’s Telemundo (which acquired a share of Spanish-language rights) as well as NFL digital platforms. The other two networks in the current Super Bowl rotation have increasingly looked to position streaming outlets alongside broadcast TV as lures for younger viewers. Offerings like Peacock and Paramount+ are subscription services, however, unlike Tubi.

Live programming, as Fox Corp. executives have recently emphasized, is not a strategic inclination for Tubi, which sees about 95% of its viewing coming from on-demand titles. Peers like the Roku Channel and Pluto TV are more invested in FAST and even to some extent live sports despite the daunting economics. After acquiring the property in 2020, Fox has ramped up its ad business and overhauled its executive leadership, putting it on a path toward $1 billion in annual revenue.

Tubi has also expanded from its library-only origins into original programming, which stands to gain promotional exposure on Super Bowl Sunday. One of the standout performers from the library of 300 original titles to date has been the movie Sidelined: The QB and Me, which was one of the top-viewed titles in all of streaming upon its debut last November. Earlier this month, the Fox subsidiary said it surpassed 97 million monthly users and 10 billion streaming hours in 2024.

Along with the main game telecast, which is billed as a 4K presentation, Tubi will also feature Fox’s pregame show as well as its own red-carpet show hosted by model and actress Olivia Culpo. Starting January 28, Tubi will also add past Super Bowls, halftime shows and other NFL programming to its roster through the period around the big game.
