On November 14, the French team will return to the Stade de France against Israel, as part of the Nations League. A meeting which will take place the day after 9 years of the Bataclan attacks, and as tensions around the conflict in the Middle East increase. Despite this context and the petition from MP Louis Boyard to cancel this meeting, Bruno Retailleau reaffirmed that the match between French and Israelis will indeed take place. In the stadium located in Seine-Saint-Denis.
“ I made a point with the police chief, Laurent Nuñez, who knows perfectly well what he is talking about. I asked him the question of whether it could take place, which would be best, in the Stade de France where it is planned. We will, of course, adapt the security system because there will be risks. It will take place. Setting up a gauge? This is something we are currently studying. What I wanted was for us not to move it to the Parc des Princes, for example. For a question of gauge, but also for a question of principle. We are in France and we must be able to enforce public order. I hope it will be a good time. A good time for sport and a good time for this relationship which is special and which unites Israel and France beyond what we may know as violent conflict. And it is important that the values of sport, which are universal values, bring together human beings, whatever their religion or the color of their skin, or whatever their nationality. That’s the message of sport. Could we, perhaps, on November 14, leave conflicts aside and listen to this beautiful message that athletes offer us? », indicated the Minister of the Interior, this Friday morning, on BFM TV.
