Hulu announced on Wednesday that Frankie Quiñones‘ first hour-long comedy special will debut on the streamer under its Hularious banner.
Directed and produced by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Ali Wong (Beef), with Irwin Entertainment also on board to produce, the special will launch domestically on Hulu and Disney+ internationally. No other details, including a release date, have been disclosed. The special will be the last featured over the course of Hularious’ first year.
Quiñones commented, “To have my homegirl Ali Wong produce and direct my first one-hour special is a dream come true. Thanks to Hulu/Disney for making this possible. Be ready for some vulnerable ridiculousness. That’s what’s up.”
Stated Wong, “Frankie, on and offstage, was always one of the funniest coming up in the Bay Area comedy scene. I’m really honored to be directing and producing his first stand up special because his hour is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. People mostly know him as Creeper from the viral Cholofit videos or from his hilarious performance in “This Fool,” so I’m excited for the world to watch his stand-up.”
Quiñones is best known for online sketch work, as well as his starring role in Hulu’s critically claimed two-season comedy This Fool, for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the Independent Spirit Awards. He’s already in business with Hulu on the pilot for sketch show Get Frankie and is currently in production on The Fiddle Leaf, a feature with his longtime collaborators, The Dress Up Gang, which he stars in and exec produces. Coming up, he’ll also be seen on NBC’s new comedy series St. Denis Medical.
Wong took her career to an entirely new level with the first season of Netflix’s cultural phenomenon Beef, in which she starred opposite Steven Yeun, becoming the first Asian woman to win the Lead Actress Emmy while garnering numerous other accolades. Previously, she’s directed her own most recent comedy special, Ali Wong: Single Lady, which debuted on Netflix last month, as well as Sheng Wang: Sweet and Juicy for the same streamer. Next up, she’ll be heard in Netflix’s animated series Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, with Lucy Liu and Bowen Yang, for which she also serves as executive producer.
Hulu’s new stand-up brand, Hularious, launches on November 22 with The Skinny, the latest special from Jim Gaffigan. Other previously announced comedians bringing new specials to Hulu amid its aggressive push into the stand-up space include Bill Burr, Chris Distefano, Ilana Glazer, Sebastian Maniscalco, Andrew Santino, Roy Wood Jr. and Ralph Barbosa, to name just a few. As part of its new comedy initiative, Hulu is also launching a curated collection of licensed stand-up specials ranging from iconic comedy specials to recent releases from 800 Pound Gorilla and Comedy Dynamics, among others.
Quiñones and Wong are both repped by UTA and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller. Quiñones is also with Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment.
