French football in mourning

Sad news announced this Tuesday evening. Jean Petit, legendary figure of AS Monaco, and former player of the France team, died this week at the age of 74.

Born in Toulouse, Jean Petit joined AS Monaco at the age of 20, in 1969, and he spent his entire playing career on the Rock. To his credit, more than 360 D1 and D2 matches with ASM, 65 goals, and above all two French championship titles (1978 and 1982) and a Coupe de France (1980). During this period, this midfielder was selected for the French team 12 times. He even played in the 1978 World Cup with Michel Platini’s Blues.

Emblematic figure of AS Monaco

After the end of his playing career, Jean Petit remained loyal to AS Monaco, of which he became an emblematic figure. He has held several positions at the club, but above all that of assistant coach, working alongside Arsène Wenger, Jean Tigana, Claude Puel, Didier Deschamps, Ricardo and Marco Simone. He also served as interim coach twice, in 1994 and 2005.
