French team: Ousmane Dembélé explains why he rarely gets his shots on target

Considered a player full of talent since he revealed himself to the world of football wearing the Stade Rennais jersey, Ousmane Dembélé is one of the rare players capable of dynamiting a defense by knowing how to do it with both feet. Unfortunately for him, the Vernon native has to deal with a major flaw: his lack of efficiency. How many times have we seen him eliminate several opponents before sending his attempt into the stands when he had done the hardest part?

Such frustration is illustrated by a statistic. During his first season at Paris Saint-Germain, Dembélé delighted his teammates with 17 assists, but he scored too few goals (7). The same goes for the French team. This Monday evening, Dembélé certainly scored a very nice goal against Belgium (2-0), but he only scored his sixth goal in 51 selections. Given his potential, this observation is enough to annoy. But the main person concerned has promised to change.

A lack of freshness

Asked by TF1 At the end of the match, Dembélé announced that he was going to play it a little more “personally” this season. “Yes, it’s nice (his goal, editor’s note) especially since in the first half I was told to shoot instead of always looking for the pass. I’m told that I’m too generous and that I’m always looking to pass. I decided to try my luck and this season I’m going to try to be a little more personal.”he said, before concluding.

“Coach Luis Enrique keeps telling me this. He tells me to shoot on target and try my luck because at worst, a teammate can deflect my shot. Every training session, I try to work, especially on dribbling. I dribble one, two and I lack freshness on my shots so my body lifts up a little. That’s why I often shoot and don’t shoot on target.” At least, we cannot blame Ousmane Dembélé for not being clear-sighted about his case.
