Frenkie de Jong says he is angered by reports claiming that he is considering leaving Barcelona at the end of the season.

Earlier this month, reports in Spain claimed that De Jong is unhappy with Barcelona’s hierarchy and is now open to joining a new club in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are also said to be open to offers for the Netherlands international in order to improve the club’s financial situation.

United would be expected to reignite their interest in De Jong having failed to sign the midfielder in the summer of 2022, while Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move.

But De Jong is adamant that he intends to remain at Camp Nou.

‘The truth is that I am a little angry with what you people [the media] in general write,’ De Jong said on Tuesday evening.

‘Many things come out that are not true, it is irritating me.’

When asked if he believes the information is being leaked by Barcelona, De Jong replied: ‘I can’t say that, I don’t have information about that.

‘I know that many things are invented, you write things that are not true. You are doing it in general with many players, even coaches. You cannot do that, you’re inventing things.

‘It’s a lot of smoke, a lot of lies, that I’m earning €40 million (£34m) or so… the truth is that it is far from what I earn. I won’t say figures, but they have invented a story that is not true

‘I am very happy at Barca, it is the club of my dreams. I hope to continue playing for Barca for many years.

‘I consider that the club is my teammates, the staff… and I am enjoying it a lot. The press sometimes criticise my level, that doesn’t matter because everyone can have their opinion. But I don’t accept lies.’
