The Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri has recorded its first successful baby through In-Vitro Fertilisation.

This was contained in a statement made available to PUNCH Online by the hospital on Friday.

According to the statement, the disclosure was made during the hospital’s annual rededication/Thanksgiving Service, which is an annual event held every year.

The Chief Medical Director, Kingsley Achigbu, said that the management of the hospital conceptualised the idea of having the Assisted Reproductive Services unit a few years ago to assist couples who were experiencing difficulties in having babies in the natural way to surmount such challenges and become proud and happy parents.

The baby boy born on January 2nd, 2025, has brought accolades to the management of the hospital and the parents are overjoyed.

According to him, two consultants in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department were sent for training on IVF, adding that the arrival of the baby was a dream come true.

“IVF programme is now a regular feature at the Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri,” the statement added.

Achigbu urged couples “to take advantage of the services which are available to fulfil their heart desire of becoming proud parents.”
