The Carabao Cup third round draw took place on Wednesday night after Newcastle United’s thrilling/nailbiting evential win on penalties against Forest.
The first challenge in the draw was successfully negotiated, with United avoiding the seeded, sorry… Champions League and Europa League, teams that had been banned from facing each other in this round.
Those six had been drawn earlier to see whether they would play home or away, so the first six balls/clubs drawn out of the bag, would get one of Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Man U, Villa, or Spurs.
Whilst it was yet another away match drawn out for NUFC, it could have been far worse than getting League Two AFC Wimbledon on the road, as Chelsea still remained when United were drawn out.
There are 32 clubs left in the competition and the 16 third round ties will be played and split over two midweeks – Weeks commencing Monday 16 September AND Monday 23 September.
