The 20th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards was held on Saturday, Novermber, 2nd 2024, at the prestigious Balmoral Convention Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.

Filmmakers from around the world gathered at the awards gala to honor and recognize the outstanding achievements in African cinema.

The event served as a platform to celebrate the very best in the industry, bringing together talented individuals from diverse backgrounds under one roof.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Segun Arinze, and Ghanaian TV host and actress, Joselyn Dumas took on the role of hosts at the prestigious awards ceremony.

Filmmaker and writer Dorothee Wenner chaired the 12-member jury committee for the awards.

Among the night’s top winners is the Nigerian-directed drama ‘The Weekend’ which won the “Best Film Award” for Nigeria and Africa.

Nigerian filmmaker Femi Adebayo won the “Best Actor in Supporting Role” category for his historical thriller ‘Jagun Jagun’ while Elsie Abang won the “Best Actress in Supporting Role” in ‘KIPKEMBOI.’ 

Michell Lemuya snatched the “Best Young Promising Actor” for ‘NAWI’ followed by South Africa’s Zolisa Xaluva who won the “Best Actor in Leading Role” category for his role in ‘The Queenstown King.’  Ghana’s Jackie Appiah also snagged the “Best Actress in Leading Role” for ‘Red Carpet’.
