Sometimes it may be difficult to remember—beneath the crashing, unyielding waves of big head and blank-eyed replicas of pretty much every pop culture franchise under the sun—that Funko makes vinyl figurines that are of the non-Pop variety. But when it reminds you that it does, it likes to remind you in style.
io9 has your first look at the latest entry in Funko’s “Jumbo Chan” line of vinyl figurines in the form of Japan’s greatest size-changing hero, Ultraman! The fifth figure in Funko’s love letter to the retro toy stylings of Japanese sofubi figurines—which so far has included Voltron himself, Gō Mifune from Speed Racer, Ken the Eagle from Gatchaman, and even Funko’s own mascot, Freddie Funko—is a similar nostalgic celebration of the original Ultraman.
Funko Jumbo Chan Ultraman
Clocking in at 14 inches tall, the Jumbo Chan Ultraman depicts the giant of light in a heroic pose, and adorably rounded (the disconcertingly slender Ultras of Shin Ultraman and Ultraman Rising, this ain’t). He also comes with some fantastic retro packaging too, showing Ultraman in his classic transformation pose as Shin Hayata prepares to go from ordinary human to skyscraper-sized superhero.
You’ll have to act fast if you want to put Ultraman in your collection though: the figure is limited to a release of just 1,200, and comes with a certificate of authenticity to let you know just where in the run your Ultra comes from. If you want one of your own—and have $250 to spare—preorders for the Jumbo Chan Ultraman are now live here, ahead of an estimated shipping date of October 22.
