According to Sergi Sole’s report in Mundo Deportivo, Alex Valle’s future at Barcelona has become uncertain after Hansi Flick chose to pick Gerard Martin in the recent match against Valencia.

This decision has put Valle’s standing at the club in jeopardy, as he was left on the bench while others, including Martin, were given opportunities on the pitch.

Valle, 20, watched as his teammates Marc Bernal, Pau Victor, and Gerard Martin made their debuts in La Liga during the 1-2 defeat against Valencia.

Despite being a natural left-back, Valle was overlooked for Martin, who was given the chance to play in his preferred position on the left side of the defence. Even if he were to be given the nod, there is an irreplaceable Alejandro Balde he has to fight.

Valle’s future is completely uncertain

It must be noted that Valle travelled to Valencia for the contest. He was aware that if he were to play, it would be with the number 29 shirt, a number that indicates his uncertain status with the first team.

This was a concerning sign, as other players who featured in the game, like Bernal (26) and Martin (35), also wore similar numbers, suggesting that Valle is not yet fully integrated into the senior squad.

Adding to the uncertainty is the fact that Valle’s contract situation is precarious. With less than two weeks remaining before the summer transfer window closes, Valle’s release clause stands at just €3 million.

This is a significant drop from the €8 million it would have been had Barcelona opted to automatically renew his contract before 1st August. In that case, his salary would have surpassed €1 million per year.

The next few days will be crucial in determining Valle’s future at Barcelona. There is a possibility that he could be sent out on loan again, especially if Barcelona finalise a deal for Joao Cancelo, who could take up the right-back position.

Valle, who has been playing as a right-back during the pre-season, might find himself surplus to requirements if Cancelo arrives, leading to his potential departure from the club.
