Gable Steveson thinks he could have done more in the WWE before he was released.
The Olympic gold medallist was brought in as a huge name in 2021. He was one of the top amateur wrestlers in the world and was even drafted to Raw before wrestling his first match in the WWE.
However his career did not turn out as well as he hoped. Gable Steveson debuted at the Great American Bash 2023 in a match against Baron Corbin. His performance was not very impressive and the crowd immediately turned on Gable Steveson in favor of his opponent, Baron Corbin.
After a year of struggling to improve, WWE cut ties and released Gable Steveson from his contract earlier this year.
Gable Steveson appeared on on Uncrowned’s “The Ariel Helwani Show” to speak about his WWE release (H/T to Yahoo for the transcription). The Olympic gold medallist reflected on the disappointment of his run. He admitted that he could have done so much more if given the chance.
However, he accepted that this is the way of the business. Gable Steve also revealed that he’s going back to college wrestling after being released by the Buffalo Bills in the NFL.
“Of course, there’s going to be disappointment. I feel like I could have done so much more in the business and I could have lasted a really long time, but like I said, business is always going to be business. Business doesn’t stop for anyone, and it’s not going to stop for me — especially even if I’m the Olympic champion. So there’s no problem with it, I’m good to go. I’m going through college wrestling again and restarting everything and getting back to where I was.”
Gable Steveson: WWE Just Wasn’t The Right Time, I Have No Bad Feelings About It
Speaking at a press conference (via FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul), Gable Steveson was asked to comment on what happened with his WWE run.
“The WWE just wasn’t the right time,” Gable Steveson said. “I had a lot of competitive edge to me. They knew that. It was not the time for it. So maybe one day, if the stars aligned, it would be a great opportunity to do it again. I have no bad feelings with it. I have no bad blood with it. And I would like to keep moving forward with everything I have going on.”
