Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that with Sir Jim Ratcliffe joining Manchester United, the team’s transfer policy would now change.

When it comes to recruitment in the last few years, Manchester United haven’t exactly been on the money.

Especially in the last few windows, the Red Devils have come under fire for paying far more for players than the market value.

Although Mason Mount, who has had a challenging start to life at Old Trafford because of injuries, is still up for debate, Gabriel Agbonlahor is less convinced by the additions of Antony, Casemiro, and Raphael Varane.

Agbonlahor criticised Erik ten Hag for his choice to bring in Antony while speaking on talkSPORT.

“Ratcliffe won’t have these signings any more,” the former Aston Villa player said. “He won’t let Ten Hag go out and buy Antony for £70 million, he won’t let him go and buy Varane and Casemiro.

“Mason Mount, yes, he’s been injured and he’s a decent player but the amount of money they have wasted on Mount, Casemiro, Antony, Varane has done okay but hasn’t been outstanding.

“The only one who has done outstanding is Hojlund, I said from the start he is Man United’s Haaland, and he will do well for them.

“Martinez can be a top centre-half, he’s strong and good on the ball. I just don’t think Ratcliffe will have any of these players at the end of their career thinking they can come to Man United for their last big payday, like Varane and Casemiro.”

United’s supporters undoubtedly expect that Ratcliffe and INEOS will make significant improvements both on and off the field.

After hiring Omar Berrada from Manchester City, United are looking to recruit Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United.

On top of that, United have identified their summer transfer targets already, with the club aiming to go for Michael Olise from Crystal Palace and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
