Gabrielle Union is joining a now-growing list of public figures that are leaving social media platform X.

In a final post made yesterday, the Bring It On star cited changes to the terms of service, as well as the return of “volatile” individuals as reasoning for her departure. Recently, Jamie Lee Curtis also announced her leaving the Elon Musk-owned site. (High-profile accounts have trickled out in 2022 and 2023 as well, when Musk assumed ownership of then-Twitter and became CEO of X.)

“There are pivotal moments in life when we must declare that enough is enough—and for me, today is that day,” she began, titling the post “It’s been real!”

“Platforms like X were founded on authentic connections, true engagement, and creative expression, all anchored in respect for user privacy and trust,” Union continued. “Yet, with the recent and upcoming changes to the terms of service—and the return of volatile figures—I find myself at a crossroads, facing a direction I can no longer fully support. I am committed to engaging in spaces that truly value inclusivity, respect, and integrity in the digital world. Sometimes, that means recognizing the last straw and knowing when to step away.”

However, the actress is not vanishing entirely, saying she can still be found on platforms like Instagram and its own X-like Threads, TikTok, Bluesky (a social media upstart very much in the vein of X), Spill and Facebook.

“To everyone I’ve connected with here, thank you for the laughs, the insights, and the endless support. I am not disappearing completely!”

She added that the platforms she listed can serve as places where people “can continue building meaningful connections and positive vibes. Thank you all for being such an incredible part of this journey! Let’s keep spreading love and light to one another in the ways that truly matter.”

While the recent mass exodus of celebrities, journalists and organizations alike would appear to only be stemming from Musk’s alignment with president-elect Donald Trump, X’s new terms of service — which stipulates that tweets, videos and photos will be used to train the artificial intelligence bot Grok — is also a raison dêtre.
