The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched an investigation into an alleged assault involving seven military personnel in Kumasi on Friday, 28 March 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Military High Command, the incident involved three officers and four soldiers who purportedly arrested and assaulted three civilians accused of stealing a mobile phone.
The civilians reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of the altercation.

In response to the allegations, the Military Police and the Ashanti Regional Police CID have commenced a joint investigation to ascertain the facts of the case.
Meanwhile, the officers and soldiers involved have been placed under closed arrest pending the outcome of the inquiry.
“The Military High Command wishes to assure all that anyone found culpable would be dealt with according to the law,” the statement affirmed, underscoring the military’s commitment to upholding discipline and accountability.
The High Command also called for calm as the investigation unfolds, urging the public to allow due process to take its course.
“We also urge the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigations,” the statement added.
The assurance comes amid growing public concern over the conduct of security personnel and their adherence to professional standards in handling civilian-related cases.
