Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has sparked speculation by acknowledging that almost every team in the world desires the signing of Ilkay Gundogan.

He hinted at Galatasaray’s potential interest, stating that they are “always looking for a good player.” This statement has fuelled rumours about Gundogan’s possible move to the Turkish club as the transfer window edges closer to its deadline.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Gundogan may leave Barcelona before the transfer window closes.

Despite talks of a potential return to Manchester City, Galatasaray have emerged as another possible destination for the talented midfielder.

Ozbek on Galatasaray’s interest in Gundogan

When asked about the potential signing, Ozbek was clear in his admiration for Gundogan. He said it is natural for Galatasaray to be linked with a player of Gundogan’s calibre, as he is considered one of the best in the sport.

“Gundogan is a very important football player. Galatasaray are also the most important team in Turkey,” he began saying as quoted by BeInSports

Ozbek admitted that the situation surrounding the veteran midfielder at Barcelona is still unclear, but he made it clear that Galatasaray are closely monitoring any developments.

“It is very natural to talk about it. There is no clear situation at the moment about İlkay leaving Barcelona or not.

Therefore, it is useless to comment on this issue at the moment. Ilkay’s situation needs to be clear first.

“Of course, we are following [his situation] closely,” he added.

For now, those close to Gundogan insist that he is not seeking to be the centre of attention. They believe that the midfielder is confident in his ability to earn his place on the pitch and that his relationship with manager Hansi Flick remains strong.

They also emphasise that Gundogan respects whatever decision Flick makes regarding his future.
