Gareth Southgate names 5 players who’ll miss England v Bosnia & Herzegovina at St James’ Park

Gareth Southgate has been talking to the media on the eve of England’s game at St James’ Park on Monday.

The national side taking on Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The first time the England men’s team have played on Tyneside in two decades.

Gareth Southgate naming five players who are set to miss tomorrow’s match.

Journalist:

“Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Anthony Gordon weren’t out there today [training], can you update us on each of these and where they are at and more importantly, how that might impact their involvement in the tournament, potentially in the 26?”

Gareth Southgate:

“All [three] are progressing well, so we are pleased with the progress they have made.

“None of them will be involved tomorrow [at St James’ Park].

“Same tomorrow for Bukayo [Saka] and probably the same tomorrow for John Stones.

“I think Anthony [Gordon] has a good chance to be available for Friday, the other two (Maguire and Shaw) that’s a little bit more unlikely, but we just see how quickly they can go really.”

Earlier today, journalists reported that Anthony Gordon was amongst those not training today. However, it was claimed that this was simply a precaution, taking as much time as possible for the Newcastle player to get fully over the ankle issue that caused him to miss the final game of Newcastle’s season two weeks ago.

Gareth Southgate simply looking after the Newcastle United player and doing everything to ensure he will be fit and on the plane to Germany, when he names his final 26 man squad later this week.
