Gary Neville has told Arsenal to temper their celebrations after siding with Jamie Carragher in the ongoing over-celebrations debate.

On February 4, Arsenal claimed a mammoth victory over Liverpool at the Emirates, winning 3-1 in what could be crucial at the end of the season with both sides in the Premier League title race.

But speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher fumed at the Gunners for what he called over-celebrating - particularly at Martin Odegaard for taking pictures of a photographer on the pitch.

It has led to over a week's worth of debate on what constitutes over-celebrating and when players can go wild with their celebrations after a win.

And Neville has sided with his Sky Sports partner and railed against Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, telling them to cool their jets.

"There's been a lot of jokes about over-celebrating. There's a lot of conversation had about over-celebrating," Neville told Sky Sports.

"But it's a really serious topic, it's a really serious topic. I made a lot of points last year in the running about how emotion, passion, can sap energy.

"Particularly if you're just a little bit too enthusiastic and that sounds absolutely crazy.

"But look it up! Look it up from a point of view of someone who is qualified in these things.

"If you use up too much emotion, too much enthusiasm and you've overhyped those anxieties and those enthusiasms and excitement levels, you do sap energy from your body.

"Arsenal last season, and there were moments that I pointed towards, that maybe look a little bit fickle where they've won against Bournemouth at home I think ten or 12 games out and [Oleksandr] Zinchenko is screaming at the fans an hour and 20 minutes after kick-off going out in his car.

"No doubt, your fans are there, wave, well done today.

Piers Morgan tells Jamie Carragher to 'shut up' in furious rant about Arsenal over-celebrating against Liverpool

"But if you are using up that level of emotion. Imagine what we are not seeing, imagine the emotion we are not seeing. We are only getting a glimpse.

"But you can read into that impact of that real sort of heightened feeling.

"Just be controlled because they have got a real chance Arsenal, they have got a really good team.

"The manager has done a great job. The back four are solid, the midfield looks strong, they have got exciting front players who haven't really hit the form this season.

"But if they can start to hit the form like it looks like they are doing now, they are such a threat.

"I feel like if they can just have that sort of… when they win a game, score a goal, celebrate for your life.

"But when you win the game at the end today that fierce determination. One down, 12 to go and just keep that control, that controlled position of knowing that the job's not done."
