Gary Neville provides worrying update about Man United’s FFP situation

Manchester United, like the majority of the Premier League teams, were quiet in the January transfer window.

The clubs across the league were cautious with their spending due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Erik ten Hag used the January transfer window to offload players who were surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. Among the more well-known names that left were Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri.

There was little in the way of incomings for United. The team signed high-priced players including Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana back in the summer.

Former United player Gary Neville gave a concerning update on the FFP issue at the team this morning while appearing on Sky Sports.

Neville said that he understands United are pushing the boundaries in terms of breaking the rules when he talked about the quiet window and how point deductions have prevented some teams from spending more.

“I think the main thing might be that FFP seems to be sort of hitting you know. I know Manchester United, a club that you would argue sort of spent hundreds of millions and have spent hundreds of millions, I know they’re on the edge of FFP. It’s not just the likes of Everton maybe and Nottingham Forest doing it near the bottom of the league at this moment in time they’re trying to play catch up it’s the clubs right at the very top and we’re having to to just move forward with a little bit more sort of caution,” Neville said.

Clubs are watching their backs a little more now that FFP is catching up to teams and severe penalties are being handed out.
