Gary Neville claims that Manchester United were ‘dominated’ by Tottenham Hotspur in their 2-2 draw on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils squandered a pivotal opportunity to catch up to their fellow top-four rivals after taking the lead twice at Old Trafford but falling to a draw by the full-time whistle. Now, they sit eight points away from yesterday’s opponents.

Despite Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford’s tidy finishes, Spurs – bar one or two chances – controlled the game. Both sides were accommodating absences to crucial players heading into the clash, with captain Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Yves Bissouma among the away side’s unavailable members, so Ange Postecoglou would’ve left Manchester at peace with taking a point.

Spurs held 64% possession to United’s 36%, completed 242 more passes and with an 89% pass accuracy compared to the Reds’ 75%.

Neville reacts

Speaking in the Sky Sports studio post-match, Neville gave his verdict on just how much Tottenham out-performed his beloved United.

“I thought they were very good,” Neville began. “Five of their best players missing, I think if they’d have had them in the team, they’d have probably won the game. Their style of play still comes through when they’ve got players missing.

“They were the better team, they dominated the whole of the second half; they had difficult moments against Rashford and Hojlund on the counter-attack at times, which most teams do against United, but in terms of being superior, they were far superior in the game.”
