California Governor Gavin Newsom said that he is launching a new podcast, This Is Gavin Newsom, promising that it will be “anything but the ordinary politician podcast.”

Produced by iHeartMedia, the new program will feature Newsom talking to people “directly that I disagree with,” he said, “as well as people I look up to.” He said that in the first few weeks, he will be sitting down “with some of the biggest leaders and architects in the MAGA movement.”

He also suggested that he will be answering questions from listeners. “Egg prices? Tariffs? DOGE? We’re tackling all your big questions,” he wrote on X.

Newsom already is co-host of a regular podcast, Politickin, with Marshawn Lynch and Doug Hendrickson.

Newsom told Politico that the model for the new podcast will be Bill Maher’s show, which features a mix of personalities on both sides of the political divide.

Newsom previously hosted a show for Current TV when he was serving as lieutenant governor. He suggested that the new podcast would be a way to “change the conversation,” but also to break through in a format that proved hugely influential in the 2024 presidential election.

Newsom has less than two years remaining on his term, but he’s been widely viewed as a presidential prospect in 2028. After Trump’s election, Newsom signaled that he would be a major counter voice in opposition. But with his focus on the devastating California wildfires and the need for the state to get recovery assistance from the Trump administration, Newsom has been more muted in his criticism.
