Steve Burton has revealed when he’s returning to General Hospital to reprise his role as Jason Morgan. It’s March 4.
“I got to talk to the head writers, this story is going to be sick. It’s gonna be awesome,” he says in the video posted to Daily Drama. “So, make sure you keep watching, because the pieces of the puzzle are gonna be fit for when I return.”
Burton’s return to the show that made him a household name was revealed at the end of GH‘s 60th Anniversary special.
Burton left the ABC sudser in 2021 after failing to adhere to its vaccine policy. He ended up joining the second installment of Beyond Salem, Peacock’s Days of Our Lives spinoff, before hopping over to DOOL earlier this year. He played Harris Michaels, a role he originated on Days in 1988.
Burton depicted Jason Morgan on and off on General Hospital from 1991 to 2012, then from 2017 to 2021. His departure from the soap came three weeks after it drop-kicked Ingo Rademacher (Jasper Jacks), who had been a vocal critic of COVID-19 mandates. He subsequently sued ABC for religious discrimination.
Last July, Burton talked to Deadline about leaving the ABC soap. His character departed at an awkward time: he married his longtime pal Carly (Laura Wright).
“Look, the circumstance [of his GH departure] was tough and you know, that’s just the way it is,” he told Deadline. “I’ll always be grateful for my time there. It was my family for so long. I grew up there and the fans have always been awesome to me.”
