Jose Mourinho will never manage a title-challenging Premier League side again following his Roma axing.

That is the view of ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, who believes the Special One is done at the top level of club football.

The 60-year-old was sacked by Roma on Tuesday morning following the club's 3-1 defeat against AC Milan over the weekend.

Having guided the Giallorossi to Europa Conference League glory in his opening season as well as the Europa League final last term, Mourinho has struggled domestically in Italy.

Roma finished in sixth spot in back-to-back campaigns, and are currently ninth having lost seven out of 20 top-flight matches.

And Jordan believes that while he considers Mourinho to be a 'genius' of the game, football has moved on from his 'provocative' and 'aggressive' style.

Jordan has also stated that the ex-Chelsea boss no longer has what it takes to win a fourth Premier League title, and could be wise to ponder now international football.

Commenting on his ego to his ill-tempered behaviour, here is what the talkSPORT host had to say on Mourinho.

Top level no more

"I'm still of the belief that he's one of the elite managers of his time.

"[But] at an elite level, it's a very difficult argument to suggest that the direction of travel for Jose Mourinho is upwards.

"So when you're looking at the legacy clubs, and the clubs that Jose Mourinho once upon a time would have been aligned with, when you see the direction being Tottenham and Roma, the direction is self-evident.

"I don't make the argument that he can get an elite job."

He added: "[He's] not anymore required at the level to win a Premier League.

"I think his time has gone. I think there is a possibility that his style of provocative, aggressive management may well now have lost its place in football."

Simon Jordan calls Jose Mourinho the Muhammad Ali of management and an undoubted football legend

Ugly behaviour

"He's provocative, antagonistic, cut from a slightly different cloth. He's a different animal, a different breed, some might like it, some not.

"I admire Jose Mourinho in lots of ways. I don't admire bad behaviour.

"Confronting a referee [Anthony Taylor] in a car park, going up to someone [ex-Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova] in the dugout when he was at Real Madrid, I don't admire that."

He added: "You can separate the person from individual events, but do I admire that behaviour? No.

"But do managers go at referees? Yeah they do. Do they do it in their offices? Yes they do.

"Was it taken by the media and put out there and subsequently turned into something that it clearly was, but managers have altercations with referees.

"Is it right? Does Mourinho push the envelope beyond the level of acceptance? Yeah of course he does.

"You judge people by the standards that other people deploy at the same time as trying to hold them to better standards.

"I would like Mourinho not to do certain things that creates a narrative that diminishes the remarkable achievements that he has got.

"The problem is, when you've got geniuses or people that are very strong thinkers and characters, there is a side of them that goes with genius."

Jordan concluded: "Mourinho is the poster boy of a fascination of his behaviour, because it gets micro-managed in the same way that Manchester United's performances get micro-managed."

Ego check

"I do think there is still a space for Jose Mourinho in football.

"Whether his ego will allow him to drop down the pecking order any further than he has already dropped, or whether international football beckons for him.

"Whether we see him potentially being considered when Gareth Southgate shuffles out of the England dugout after winning or losing in the European Championship, would there be a conversation mooted about Mourinho becoming England manager?

"Or as the Portugal manager, or as an international manager full stop?"

Jordan continued: "Could I see him back in the Premier League in a management job? Yes.

"But would he go back to the Premier League to manage a Nottingham Forest?"

Winner

"I certainly think that it's inarguable that Mourinho is a decent - and top quality coach - that's won remarkable things.

"He is a mercurial, highly-combustible, highly controversial individual that operates in cycles most of the time.

"And most of the time, those cycles bring something."

He added: "His career, his management record at a variety of different clubs, from the Portuguese clubs to Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, was absolutely remarkable."
