Ghana can become a technology-driven and digital economy in the next five years if the right investments are made in the sector, The West Africa Territory Manager of Cisco Meraki, Mr Chris Larbi, has stated.
“We are a couple of years behind and that is only because of socio economic impacts that we have had, But I do believe that Ghana is going to be the forefront of internet technology in the next five to 10 years in Africa,” he said.
Mr Larbi made the call in his presentation at a stakeholder engagement meeting held in Accra on Thursday.
The meeting which was held in partnership with IT Horizons was on the theme: “Maximising Business Growth: Unleashing the Power of Cloud Platforms for Profitable Scaling.”
He noted that, the meeting was held to engage stakeholders how to rebuild Ghana’s technology by deploying new technologies and modernize cloud technologies to give return of investment.
“We are here today not to sell our products, however, we are also here to describe how we are going to rebuild Africa and we are starting with Ghana,” Mr Larbi said.
He noted that, the country needed the best internet connectivity to meet the demand of its citizens and the larger number of foreigners who visited the country due to the “Beyond the Year of Returns” project.
He said technology was helping to reshape how things were done such that people, for example, could now easily rectify wireless issues from the comfort of their homes, when they previously had to go to the office
“It means we allow companies to scale. Likewise, we have done with so many companies who have scored 500 percent in under five years. By having our deployments we’re able to keep people in jobs,” Mr Larbi said.
On Artificial Intelligence(AI), he said it was important for businesses to embrace it as it could help them in rendering their tasks efficiently in the future, adding that Meraki was already integrating Al in its platforms to facilitate work processes.
The Managing Director of IT HORIZONS, Mr Olusegun Enitan Dada, an African lauded the innovative digital transformation solutions that were currently being carried out by the Ghanaian government.
He noted that the Smart City project and other measures, such centralising the entire database system to guarantee that every Ghanaian can be identified from a single location, may aid in the country’s development.
Mr Dada said Africa had enormous potential , including Ghana and IT Horozons was working its way to catch up with them.
“And you can also see that even from the various digital applications that has been rolled out every now and then that is helping to get things done easily and better,” he noted.
