Ghanaian Islamic scholar receives first ever doctorate degree in IT, Islamic Studies

 A Muslim Scholar and Researcher, Dr Abdul-Muhsin Baafi, has been awarded a doctorate degree with distinc­tion in Information Technology and Islamic Studies (Prophetic Hadiths) by the Asian-African branch of the Rabbaniyin Inter­national University in US.

Dr Baafi an Imam and Preacher becomes the first Ghanaian to receive the doctorate degree in that field, according to statement on his academic laurels copied the Ghanaian Times.

The title of his doctorate thesis is ‘The role of Artificial Intelligence in Enhancing the Retrieval of Islamic Knowledge: A case study on Hadith Classification and Analysis.’

The Rabbaniyin International University is an international scientific and cultural institution dedicated to the dissemination of Islamic and legal sciences.

The university assemblies scholars from prestigious universities worldwide, leveraging modern technologies to provide remote learning opportunities for Muslims everywhere, aiming to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, pious, and committed to spreading the authentic teachings of Islam globally.

The discussion committee praised the thesis and its distinction in that it dealt with a very important topic related to the uses of artificial intelligence and its employment to serve the Islamic sciences in general and the Noble Hadith in particular.

The committee also praised the “researcher’s ethics and excellence” in preparing the thesis. The committee awarded the researcher a doctorate degree with an excellent grade.

The discussion committee comprised Dr Muhammad Faisal Bahmish as supervisor and chairman, Dr Abdullah Yahya Bakri, Director of the Asian-African branch of Rabbaniyin University, as internal discussant, Dr Dalia Mohsen Suwaifi as external discussant, and Dr Basema Abdul Rahman, the acting Director of the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, as rapporteur.

The event was attended by Dr Muhammad Yahya Muhammad, follow-up official at the Asian- African branch of Rabbaniyin University, Professor Ahmed Saeed Khairdon, Professor Abdel Nasser Abdel- Razzaq, Professor Adegoma Muhammad Ishaq, Professor Abu Bakr Al-Amin Cisse, representatives of the Asian- African branch in the countries Djibouti, Ghana, Benin and Gambia.

Also in attendance were Prof. Muhammad Hussein Allan, Public Relations Officer, a number of faculty members, a group of students from the Asian-African branch, and a number of the researcher’s friends and relatives.

Dr Baafi attended Asawasi M/A Primary & JSS in Kumasi combining Islamic Arabic and English studies. He also attended Nurul-Ameen Islamic School Asawasi- Kumasi as well as Kumasi Technical High School.

He studied Information Technology at University of Education Winneba in Kumasi via NIIT College and obtained his master’s degree at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, College of Science, Department of Information Technology.

Dr Baafi undertook further studies at the Faculty of Sharia at the Islamic University of Madina in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he attended lessons of famous scholars of the Madinah Prophetic Mosque, such as: Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Abbad Badr, Sheikh Abu Bakr Al-Jazairi, of blessed memory, Sheikh Mukhtar Muhammad Al-Amin Al-Shanqeeti and many others.

Dr Baafi is the Imam and preacher at Dar Al-Hijra Mosque Adukrom, Lebanese Mosque Kaase, and some other mosques in Ghana.

He has travelled to many countries to preach, such as Germany, America, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and many others.
