Gin Sevani pays homage to a pair of inspirational women.
The month of March is a celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history, and society as a whole. Within the wrestling realm, Women’s History Month especially recognizes the women who have forged a path for the competitors of today, most of whom are eager to continue breaking the glass ceilings of this inherently male-dominated industry. For rising indie wrestler Gin Sevani, two of the sport’s biggest pioneers come in the form of two former WWE Women’s Champions.
“I feel like without Chyna, there would not have been a woman who paved the way as much as she did,” Sevani told WrestleZone’s Ella Jay. “I know there’s several other women, aside from Chyna, who also paved the way, but she sticks out because that’s who I grew up watching as well. She was one of the first females that I ever knew could wrestle. She’s just an icon. She allows me to believe that if you put your mind to it, you can do it.”
“Asuka is just incredible [too],” Sevani continued. “When it comes to in-ring work, she’s definitely somebody that I look up to. And hands down, she’s just an incredible athlete. I feel like she doesn’t get enough credit and somebody needs to give her her flowers. More flowers please because she’s just amazing.”
Across her 16-year in-ring career, Chyna captured several championships, including the WWE Women’s Championship and Intercontinental Championship. With her brooding force and unmatched strength, Chyna was also dubbed “The Ninth Wonder of the World.” Meanwhile, Asuka continues to mark her mark in WWE, where she currently serves as one-half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
