As he prepares to challenge Rennes in the European Cup, the French striker reveals that the Breton club wanted to recruit him.

On Thursday, AC Milan will host Stade Rennais in the round of 16 first leg of the Europa League. Olivier Giroud will therefore cross paths with the Breton club, which he could have joined if he had wanted.

“I have always appreciated Mr. Pinault. We were even neighbors for a time in London, and he even invited me to dinner at his place one day, we got on well with our wives too. There was an interest from Rennes, and it is always a pleasure to have this capital sympathy that I have in France, to be recognized there. But it is not in my plans to return there, in any case, I love Brittany”confided the top scorer in the history of the France team during an interview given to West France.

When he played at Chelsea, Olivier Giroud had already faced Stade Rennais in the European Cup. “In any case, it will be nice to come back to France, and Rennes remains a good memory for me with Chelsea”, he remembers. Indeed, in November 2020, the Blues won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge then 2-1 at Roazhon Park in the group stage of the Champions League.
