At 37, at the end of his contract at AC Milan, Olivier Giroud will join Los Angeles FC this summer to play with his friend Hugo Lloris. The French international, who will play in Euro 2024, is expected on August 1 with the Californian MLS team.
“Here we go, confirmed”. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano announced on Tuesday the signing of Olivier Giroud at Los Angeles FC until December 2025. The 2018 world champion will leave AC Milan at the end of his contract, on June 30, and his farewell to European football, at the age of 37, after notably winning the Champions League and the Europa League with Chelsea, Serie A with the Rossoneri and Ligue 1 with Montpellier.
Giroud will change his life and join Hugo Lloris, his teammate and captain of the France team for eleven years. The two players have been very close for many years, they lived in the same area of the London area. Their families like each other and will meet in the middle of the Californian megalopolis. The club’s training center, at California State University, is close to Downtown LA.
No Olympics for Giroud
As stated The Team On Wednesday, the 1.93m center forward is expected to start with LAFC from August 1 (the League Cup round of 16 begins on August 9). If he is going to play Euro 2024 with Didier Deschamps’ Blues, Giroud will therefore not be able to play in the men’s football tournament of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (from July 24 to August 10). His friend Thierry Henry is however in charge of the Bleuets…
The Isérois (native of Chambéry, he grew up near Grenoble) obviously had the choice to extend his adventure in Milan for another season, while he remains valuable to his teammates on the field and even decisive (15 goals and seven assists in all competitions on the clock). Immortal, the former Arsenal Gunner also managed to keep his place in the French team’s eleven alongside Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappé.
