Rogers won his fourth international cap in Monday night's 3-0 victory at Wembley Stadium.

He played the full 90 minutes after making his maiden start for England.

It followed a 16-minute cameo off the bench against Albania in Thomas Tuchel's first match in charge.

Despite not being directly involved in any of the three goals last night, Rogers reminded Hoddle of a 'young' Wayne Rooney.

Asked about the 22-year-old's performance, he told Breakfast: "When you want to find out about somebody on the pitch, you've had a look at him in training, can he reproduce it?

"He went out there and his first bit of skill that he made, he went out towards the corner flag and he did what I call a Rivellino. It was back in the day.

"He used to hit the top of the ball and he spun around the guy. I don't think anyone saw what he did. He got on the back of him on the by-line and cut it back.

"I think it went for a corner and I thought, ‘my word’, if that's your first thing you're going to do as a player, coming on from the bench.

"He was wonderful. I thought he was excellent. He's just got that little bit of guile about him, that little bit of turn of pace. My word, for his age, he's got that body strength that possibly like a [Wayne] Rooney when he was really young.

"He's strong for a youngster. He won't get knocked off the ball. He's a confident lad and he believes in his own ability. When you think about that type of player coming through, he's only going to get better."

Rooney made his Three Lions debut aged just 17 before going on to star at Euro 2004 the following year.

He scored four goals and provided an assist in a standout tournament for the forward.

The former England captain went on to score 53 goals in 120 caps for his country, becoming their all-time top scorer before being surpassed by Harry Kane.

Meanwhile, Rogers now has four caps to his name since making his debut against Greece in November.

He is also enjoying an impressive first full season with Aston Villa, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists in 41 appearances.

The playmaker has already shown his versatility for both club and country by featuring on both wings, in attacking midfield and as a makeshift striker.

Brazil hero Rivellino starred in the famous yellow and blue in the 1960s and 1970s.

He was part of their 1970 World Cup winning squad and dazzled with a repertoire of skill, which Rogers has now dipped into.

As for Tuchel's England, the Three Lions cruised to a 3-0 win over Latvia to extend their winning start under their new manager.

Goals from Reece James, Kane and Eberechi Eze secured all three points over the visitors.

England already top their World Cup qualifying group ahead of their next match away to Andorra in June.

The group winners qualify automatically for next year's finals, with the runners-up dropping into the play-offs.
