WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg had two runs with the company and saw varying degrees of success but was able to be part of some memorable moments. He ended up having some backstage confrontations during his first stint in WWE and it appears this included even Vince McMahon.
While speaking on the Ten Count Media, Ernest Miller shared a story about a backstage confrontation between Goldberg and Vince McMahon. The issue started when Goldberg got into an argument with John Laurinaitis in the locker room. Goldberg was upset about how he was being pushed and expressed his frustration by flipping over tables and shouting that the way he was being treated was unacceptable. Johnny quickly left the room and went to get Vince McMahon.
“Goldberg got into a fight in the locker room, not with Jericho, but with Johnny Ace. He was upset about how he was being pushed. He told Johnny, ‘This is bull crap the way you guys are pushing me!’ He flipped over tables and everything. Johnny hauled himself out of there and went down the hall to get Vince McMahon.”
When Vince McMahon arrived, Goldberg was still furious and said he was done and ready to leave WWE. McMahon tried to calm him down, but Goldberg continued to argue. Vince stood his ground and told Goldberg that if both of them were this angry, there might be some “furniture moving” in the room. The tension between them was high, and it led to a heated standoff.
After Vince McMahon walked out, Ernest Miller went in to talk to Goldberg, who was still upset. Goldberg mentioned how Vince McMahon had come in as if he was ready for a fight, saying he could easily take him down if it came to that. While Goldberg’s anger was clear, Miller noted that Vince McMahon wasn’t afraid of the situation.
“When Vince came in, Goldberg was still furious. He told Vince, ‘I’m leaving! I’m done with this!’ Vince tried to calm him down, saying, ‘Listen, just relax.’ But Goldberg wasn’t having it. Vince then said, ‘Look, the way you’re throwing things around, if I came in here mad and you’re mad, there might be some furniture moving around with both of us being angry.’ Vince stood up to Goldberg, and they had a tense standoff.
After Vince walked out, I went in to talk to Goldberg. Goldberg looked at me and said, ‘Man do you know that old f****** came in here acting like he was going to do something? Goldberg was like, ‘I’d kill that old man!’”
Miller noted that before entering the room, Vince McMahon had taken off his jacket, handed it to someone, and rolled up his sleeves. He walked in confidently, ready to handle the situation. While the moment was serious, Ernest found it interesting how Vince McMahon dealt with the confrontation so boldly.
“When Vince walked into the room, he had his suit on. He took off his jacket right there in the hallway, handed it to someone, rolled up his sleeves, and went in. He wasn’t backing down. Vince was ready to go head-to-head with Goldberg, saying something like, ‘If I’m as mad as you are, there’s going to be some furniture moving in here.’ It was intense, but also kind of funny how Vince handled it.”
Despite all this, Goldberg previously admitted that he would be eternally grateful to Vince McMahon. The WWE Hall of Famer is currently getting ready for his retirement match next year and that remains his focus at the moment, but fans are certainly surprised that Goldberg and McMahon had such a heated confrontation backstage.
