EXCLUSIVE: In a 2025 that has already seen tragic domestic terrorism strike America, the 82nd annual Golden Globes will take place today behind an extra thick wall of security and armed law enforcement.
Following a truck intentionally being rammed into a New Orleans crowd and the fiery explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck in front of the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on New Year’s Day, the fortification around today’s 5 pm PT starting Beverly Hills ceremony has been increased to be more formidable than ever.“Federal, regional and local agencies and police always work closely together around high-profile events like the Golden Globes, but this year more resources than usual are being put in place,” a federal law enforcement official said Sunday.
“The whole country is on edge right now, public spaces feel unsafe to some,” he added. “We have to change that narrative.”
As a part of that effort, snipers and other law enforcement officers will be posted on buildings in the area, along with enhanced surveillance systems, we’re told. On the streets, the Beverly Hills Police Department intends to be out in force as usual, with stronger than usual support from regional and federal agencies like the Sheriffs’ Department, FBI and Homeland Security.
“We understand that current national events are very concerning and we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone,” Beverly Hills Public Information Manager Lauren Santillana stated to Deadline Sunday on behalf of the city and the BHPD. “The Beverly Hills Police Department will continue our increased security measures, including staffing of officers, professional staff, and security contractors during this weekend’s Golden Globes.”
“Additionally, BHPD is in constant communication with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners for updated information,” Santillana noted as online chatter among known groups and individuals is carefully monitored, along with other noteworthy communication. “We ask everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”
To that end, GG nominees, presenters and other guest will be subjected to greater searches than ever. “If we believe there is a reason to, vehicles will be searched inside and out, no matter who is in them,” a police source informed Deadline of what A-listers can expect as they pass manned checkpoints. With the cooperation of organizers, monitoring within the Hilton itself has been stepped up significantly, both visibly and behind-the-scenes, we’re told.
Over the last two decades, the Globes has been a fairly locked down access control zone, with security measures increased some years more than others depending on current events. However, with the domestic rise of the commandeering of vehicles to attack citizens and institutions in recent years, greater security radius’ have become an essential tool for law enforcement for high profile gathering such as the Globes.
Part of the measures in force today will include a wider and more enforced than usual perimeter around the Beverly Hilton of closed streets and barricades.
While a three rings of protection perimeter around the iconic hotel is typically implemented, it would not be surprising if there is a fourth ring given current circumstances. Each ring contains response teams from bomb to SWAT units ready to handle any danger and diversion, even if not in the immediate vicinity of the Hilton. Also, look for patrol drones in the sky.
The enhanced move is clearly intended to prevent anything like the horrific ISIS-inspired attack by an Army veteran that occurred on NOLA’ packed Bourbon Street in the early hours of January 1 and left 14 people dead and dozens injured. Along with the usual closures on Wilshire Blvd. and North Santa Monica Blvd, more commercial and residential streets in the area will now be blocked off or under severe traffic restrictions with officers present.
At the same time, given the spotlight around Hollywood’s first awards show of the year, security firm World Protection Group CEO Kent MoyerMoyer has faith that the BHPDs efforts are well coordinated with the LAPD, LA County Sheriffs Office and others. “There has been a system put in place before, and the system will adjust to the current state of affairs,” he tells Deadline.
In a good sign as the Globes get underway this afternoon, the LA County Sheriff’s Department has implemented a temporary fix to its 38-year old-plus computer dispatch system for patrol vehicles after a systemwide outage which impacted a service area of 3.5M people. The largest sheriff’s department in the U.S. began 2025 with deputies using pen and paper as they dealt with the outage.
“Everyone should feel safe today, and know that everything that can be done to insure their safety and that of the event is being done,” the federal law enforcement official said of tonight’s Nikki Glaser hosted Golden Globes on CBS and Paramount+. “That’s how it should to be.”
