The Gombe State Government has supported the families of fallen heroes and veterans by donating N6 million to the Nigerian Legion.
This gesture was announced by the state governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, represented by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held at Pantami Township Stadium in Gombe on Wednesday.
Yahaya said, “We are enjoined to donate generously so that the Nigerian Legion can render assistance to the needy families of the fallen heroes and veterans alike.”
He emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families, stating that “peace, peace, and peace is of great desire in all human groups, as it is necessary for human activities to thrive.”
Yahaya also acknowledged the role of security agencies in maintaining peace and security in the state.
He stated, “I thank all the security agencies here for the peace that exists in our State Gombe.” He urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and provide timely information to prevent incidents.
“The event marked the launch of the Emblem to support those impacted by the sacrifices of their loved ones, as well as the laying of wreaths to remember fallen heroes.”
Speaking earlier, Chairman of Nigeria Legion, Sgt. Adamu Dogo, lauded the government for redeeming the pledge of last year.
Dogo said, “Your Excellency. I thank you for redeeming N6,000,000.00 as a pledge made during 2024-Armed Forces Remembrance Day/Emblem Appeal Fund; we are indeed grateful.”
