Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has arrived at the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja as the court deliberates on the state governorship election petition.
Accompanied by his entourage, Governor Diri arrived at the courtroom at approximately 10:15 a.m., flanked by a retinue of security personnel and well-wishers.
Upon his arrival, the Governor was formally introduced by his lead counsel, Chris Uche SAN.
The Governor Diri is attentively observing the objections raised by his legal team and others against the recent application submitted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva. Their application requests that the Tribunal members recuse themselves from further hearing of their Petition against the Governor. In their man suit, Sylva and APC are demanding that the tribunal should nullify Diri’s victory at the election.
Meanwhile, Governor Diri had previously disclosed that his new cabinet would include members from other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP).
Governor Diri, alongside his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, secured victory on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 11, 2023, governorship election and commenced their second term on February 14, 2024.
Following the conclusion of the weekly five-kilometer Prosperity Walk, which concluded at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, Governor Diri affirmed that he would conduct extensive consultations and consider all interests in the selection of his cabinet members.
Furthermore, he emphasized that his cabinet would be inclusive, representing various political parties across the state.
