Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf departed Kano state on Tuesday amidst a crisis affecting the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
It is worth noting that Governor Yusuf facilitated a reconciliation meeting on Monday evening between the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and dissatisfied members of his constituency.
However, despite this effort, the party opted to suspend Bichi along with the Commissioner of Transportation, Muhammad Diggol, due to allegations of power abuse and disloyalty.
According to Daily Trust, Governor Yusuf, on Tuesday (today), spent approximately two hours at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport before his flight to Abuja.
Naija News reports this occurred not long after the former Governor of Kano and NNPP leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, entered the state.
It is worth noting that Kwankwaso had been engaged in discussions with party supporters, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jibril Falgore, and other political appointees and stakeholders from various Local Government Areas regarding unspecified matters.
When approached by journalists for comments earlier on the situation, he declined to provide any, directing inquiries to the party chairman.
There have been rising concerns among a faction of party loyalists and some opposition members advocating for the “freedom” of Governor Yusuf from what they perceive as the controlling influence of Kwankwaso, who has been accused of managing the state indirectly.
This group has claimed that Kwankwaso has been overseeing the administration’s operations, dictating actions to be taken. Through radio broadcasts and social media initiatives, they have urged Kwankwaso to permit the governor to fulfil his responsibilities as the Chief Executive of the state.
