Government should prioritize the development of Hyderabad city

Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, G Kishan Reddy, stated that 80% of Telangana State’s revenue comes from Hyderabad and around 1 million people travel to Hyderabad daily. He urged the State government to focus on the development of Hyderabad city.

Reddy made these remarks after participating in the Hyderabad District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (Disha) meeting on Saturday. Disha meetings are held in parliamentary constituencies across the country, and as the Chairman of the Disha Committee, Reddy discussed the implementation of central government schemes and important public issues.

During the meeting, they discussed issues regarding government schools, hostels, and electricity. The meeting was attended by GHMC Commissioner, D Ronald Rose, Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep, and officials from various departments.

Reddy highlighted the struggle faced by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and municipalities in the district due to a lack of funds, with workers resorting to sit-in protests. He emphasized that the state government should address the provision of drinking water and resolve drainage problems. Additionally, he drew attention to the rented buildings housing several Anganwadis, schools, and hostels in Hyderabad, stressing the need for better facilities for the education of underprivileged children.

Reddy mentioned that funds have been released by the central government for 29 minority schools, without any discrimination based on religious affiliation. However, he criticized the state government for not taking sincere action on these issues. He urged the state government to prioritize the allocation of central funds and focus on the development of Hyderabad for the well-being of its people.

Regarding infrastructure projects, Reddy informed that the modernization of Secunderabad Railway Station is underway with an investment of Rs. 715 crores from the central government. However, the state government has not completed land acquisition for passenger facilities and parking at the station. The central government has also undertaken development projects for Nampally, Kachiguda, Secunderabad, and a terminal near Charlapalli. Reddy urged the state government to acquire land for the Charlapally railway terminal and expedite the construction of Amberpet and Uppal flyovers, which have been delayed due to a lack of cooperation.

Reddy reminded that although the state government did not cooperate, the second phase of MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) was completed by the central government.

He also mentioned plans for the construction of a railway station near the Komuravelli Mallanna temple and requested the state government’s support in initiating the Bhumi Puja (ground-breaking ceremony) for the project.

Reddy praised the sincere efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in promoting the development of Telangana, including Hyderabad, and called on the state government to extend its support for these initiatives.
